MEDNET is a scientific conference organized of under the auspices of the Society for the Internet in Medicine (SIM) . In 2006, MEDNET will be part of a larger eHealth conference, involving meetings of other groups such as the International Society for Research on Internet Interventions, and the WATI group (Web-Assisted Tobacco Interventions). While previous MEDNET’s were primarily hosted in Europe, the 2006 congress will for the first time be organized in North America, coordinated by the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, Toronto, Canada. Toronto is one of the most vibrant cities in North-America. It has an extremely multicultural population, is the largest city in Canada and the 5th-largest city in North America. 60% of the US population can reach Toronto in less than 90 minutes. We expect that it will be the largest and most exciting MEDNET to date, with an anticipated 500 participants from all over the world, numerous partner organizations and satellite symposia/workshops (such as WATI III Web Assisted Tobacco Intervention - tbc), a large trade exhibition showcasing eHealth technologies and web-applications for health professionals and consumers, a ehealth business track, and high-profile keynote speakers.
